Interview with Dharini Balasubramaniam


In this week's episode, we welcome Dharini Balasubramaniam, the Director of admissions, Recruitment and Outreach in the School of Computer science at the University of St Andrews. We discuss Dharini’s experience studying and researching Computer Science and helping with outreach in the school. As well as her work towards outreach and admissions, Dharini is a senior lecturer and researcher specialising in Software Architecture, Uncertainty in Software Models and incorporating Data Ethics in the Software Development Lifecycle.


Throughout the interview Dharini provides engaging and honest answers to Rhona and Ira’s questions, covering a wide range of topics. Dharini starts by explaining her pathway into studying CS, how it brought her into academia and the role models that she looked up to throughout her journey. Dharini then gives us an insight into her current interests and research as well as the work she has done to help new students integrate into university life. Finally, she shares with us the valuable advice that she would give her younger self.
